Is Roatan safe?
Yes! Roatan is safe …but that does not mean you can avoid to take your normal precautions… Every place on the earth have their less safe zone but in general Roatan it is a safe and quiet island.
Thousand of tourists per week visit Roatan and it is very unusual hear a robbed or any other problem of safety.
If you will rent a room in an hotel or resort, or if you will stay in a apartment or home, you will stay totally safe just follow some suggestions, the same you could have in other island…
The probabilities that something bad happen are many lower if you take some simple, normal tips in your mind (valids worldwide):
Money: take with you just the enough cash you estimate to spend when you go out to a tour o to eat.
Cards: have with you two or more credit or debit cards, and manage them in two or three different places.
Jewelry and Documents: many hotels has safe box, rooms are safe but in just few minutes you can leave all your important stuff in a more safe place. Take a copy of your documents and don’t put them in the same place of the originals.
Parties: these are often the main causes of problems during a vacation… get drunk, using drugs in unfamiliar places or in public places exposes you to risks. Do not look for or accept drugs in the street, with strangers.
In general, try to know the surroundings of your hotel and the itineraries to go to eat or drink something before, during the day, and ask the neighbors, owners of shops or houses and tourists who came before you if they have recommendations for you to use safely the area that interests you.
